Bunker guard

QM Sergeant Lowe, BEF, reported: " During the Axis assault on Chilly, and equipped with a bren, I made the mad dash across the Army Bases open parade ground, taking cover behind the vehicle depot as tracer and bullets hammered into the ground around me. Moving quickly, I skirted around the Vehicle depot and entered the bunker. Taking position at the NE slit in the upper part of the bunker I had a clear view of the Axis infantry's line of assault, namely through the hedgerows either side of the East road.
Immediately I spotted grey uniforms and opened fire, taking down 3 with my first magazine. Recieveing a stock pile of bren magazines from Bopac of the 11th Hussars, I continued to lay down fire on the hedgerows whenever I spotted an opponent. Even with the bunker under heavy machinegun & shell fire, I managed to keep up an accurate rate of fire. As the Axis panzers closed in on the town, an MG bullet found its target through the slit."

Holding the fort

Captain Branko spawned in the Spontin depot in the enemy held town of Ciney. While his fellow soldiers made it out of the depot in order to secure the table, captain Branko remained inside making sure he was not coming to harm. During the mission that lasted 5 minutes, the depot was captured by the germans and Branko remained to welcome the german troops. Inside the depot he managed to kill 7 germans spawning in like stealing candy from kids, before Oberstleutnant Stalg retired him from the battlefield.

Private Stephenson secures bunker in Moerdijik

Today while attack Lux I met a new recruit named Stephenson. A huge part of why I play is to play with others so I asked the man to walk with me. So for the next 2 1/2 hours, the recruit followed me. I had 30 kills or so tonight. He was on his first day and he got about 10. He checked his corners and he spotted things I didn't notice. At one point I told him to lead me somewhere and we ran into Moerdijik. After almost 15 minutes of street fighting, he was given permission by the fellow allies (Lt. Col Binky cleared the bunker) to capture the bunker Nov 09 23:09. S! Stephenson.

Just wanted to make him feel a little welcome, especially when new recruits are always a little lost out there.

Salute!

Entire division boxed in

Lt.Col Giggyboo, 23rd Armour: " The entire 17ID is in timeout now for the next 12 hours. I wish to thank CE and the other allied players at Ciney for staying on the AHC in the sidechat to press that attack. Yes, it interrupted another operation, but no one can argue with the result. But I personally favor trapping and entire division vs. a brigade any day of the week.
Listening to the PB is not a bad thing, and Ciney proved that tonight. We KNEW 17ID was badly attrited. There is the rare occasion where the players know something the HC's don't. So, the AHC gave us the tools 4th INF BDE, 8e and we finished the job. A big *S* to the late night crews who pressed Havelange, Marche, Rochefort, Mean and Nandrin as well."
Ciney and sending the 17ID to the penalty box....

Monsjoex, 23rd Armour, explains what happens: " This topic comes up with every pocket/routing. 17ID was in Nandrin, AB gets captured before all cps -> brigades bounce into pocket because system thinks supply is still going through(due to cps being axis)
I first thought like, man thats just crap brigades need to fallback properly always, but others said: "if your brigades are keep getting crushed and you don't move them away properly than the men could fallback to the wrong town And i kinda agree with them now.

Intercept

Air-Vice Marshal MJDixon1, DFC. reports:

Aircraft: Supermarine Spitfire Mk. Ia "Z-K-L"
Mission Type: Intercept
Airfield: Maubeuge Aerodrome, France
Date: 5th of November 1939

In the early afternoon of the 5th, British ground units in the town of Lier were reportedly under attack by one or more German Bf 109 Fighters, as such I was immediately scrambled with orders to intercept the enemy fighters harassing out troops.
After a short flight from Maubeuge at angels 06 I found myself over Lier and identified below me a single Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4 attempting to strafe ground units, as such I circled the area from altitude in order to place myself on his six o'clock position, at which point I dove at him.

The Hun clearly spotted my approach as he immediately made a dash towards his own lines, believing that his Fighter could easily outrun my Spitfire, he was however incorrect in this assumption as I, having begun from a higher altitude, had more energy and as such found it easy to place my aircraft in a firing position on his none maneuvering crate and - after a short burst of fire - took off the Hun's wing, resulting in him crashing into the ground where he came to a stop.
After having intercepted the enemy aircraft I gained altitude to angels 10 and started to return to Maubeuge, after a short time however I spotted a second Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4 at a slightly higher altitude off my port wing, as such I gained altitude to match him and then turned to attack.
Upon attacking the second 109 - the Jerry Pilot put his aircraft into a slight dive, I was however able to score some hits on him before he got out of range which forced him into turning combats during which I pierced both of his wings, resulting in heavy fluid loss from his aircraft.
The Hun then tried to dive away again at low altitude, however I fired another burst into his mid section, resulting in him ceasing all control and veering into the ground, presumably killed or otherwise disabled by my machinegun fire beforehand.
Having downed the second 109 I then returned to my original heading and landed at Maubeuge a short time later.
Started Nov 05, 2009 in a Spitfire Mk I from Maubeuge. Ended with 2 kills and 0 captures.

German air raid on Maubeuge repelled

Sergeant Legear, FAF reported: " I lifted from Maub. 4 minutes into flight while trying to gain altitude, 3 luft. planes came zooming down on me. I took them low and tried to out corner them back to the AF. Managing to our perform the 110, I got in behind him and blew his left wing off. The 6 .50 cals tore thru his plane sending him in a ball of fire down to the ground. After seeing thier german comrade fall to his death in flames, the other two LUFT pilots, 1 110 and a 109 came in fast from up high trying to zoom and boom me. I put my nose down to the earth and lost them in a forest. I came up from underneath them, suprising them and downed them both is a quick dog fight."

A sap to far

Sergeant Mor0n, FAF reports from the frontlines: " After setting up my msp to bust the Eeklo - Maldegem FB I placed 2 charges on each spawn after wich I had to resupply myself. On the way back I noticed an opel spawning and heading towards maldegem. I quickly head for cover to observe his intentions. Whilest under the cover of a bushrow I heard 3 more opels spawning and figured that this was about to become a real hot zone. I quickly reported all this enemy activity to my fellow allies. Staying hidden I reported ET after ET.

About 20 moniutes later allied airplanes started besieging the FB for spawning ET and ei. Gerry responded to this by spawning about 12 flaks. I decided I had to do something more than report enemy movement. Sneaking up through a bushline I managed to obtain a position overlooking an open field. In this field were 3 AAAs eatingaway the air cover. I took em out with my rifle. But having spawned a sapper i only had 5 clips so i ran out of ammo very quickly. Killing those AAAs gave away my position and I noticed an ei sneaking up to me wich I took out with my last shot. I also managed to destroy 1 opel heading to set up another msp into Maldegem. Out of ammo and out of satchels I had to retreat somewhere. but I was blocked in at all sides. At this time I chose to MiA rather than KiA. 55 minutes of sneaking and shooting later I managed to take out 5 e and MiA"

The defense of Chimay

QM Sergeant Tcmann reported: I reported for anti-tank duty shortly before dusk. Most of the action was northeast of town. I heard a little German small arms fire but mostly German armor coming in from the Couvin FB. Began pushing my 2-Pounder from the south army base and headed southeast. Met up with a CovertOps sqauddie in an A13 and proceeded east.

We heard most of the German tank audio about one and a half kilometers northeast of our position so we decided to head to the wooded area between us and the reported targets just after dark. CovertOps squaddie 'Firekast' engaged a Panzer 3-F on the way to the wooded area and had a confirmed kill on the 3-F. Once we settled inside the wooded area we had clear shots of the turn in the road east of Chimay. We quickly began dispatching enemy armor units and were met by another squaddie 'DenisD' in a Matilda tank.

I quickly engaged a Panzer 3-F at the southern turn and it was exploded after two rounds. Engaged another 3-F that was in the wooded area N of the road and quickly exploded that enemy unit as well. While moving to get a different view my squddie 'Firekast' destroyed a SdkFz-232 that had been some annoyance to the friendly units that were farther to our north and northwest.

After pushing to and settling into my next position a Panzer 4-D was spotted heading towards our wooded area. The 4-D had turned south before reaching the turn in the road but was still in the open and in view from the woods. Myself and 'Firekast' engaged the 4-D but he was lucky enough to get under the hill and most of our 40mm AT rounds were not penetrating the turret. The noise must have been deafening because the 4-D then turned and moved hastily east out of view. The tank commander in the 4-D then made an unwise decision and headed back towards us looking for targets where he quickly met a fiery death.

It was quiet after the 4-D and we waited for more German panzer audio. We didn't have to wait long. Within a few minutes another Panzer 3-F was headed west towards the turn in the road. We lost audio contact of the 3-F before he reached the turns but apparently he used his momentum to keep moving as I saw him go off-road at the turn still heading west. He made it to a berm where he was searching for targets inside the woods on the north side of the road. I engaged him at 1.2 kilometers and my first 3 shots were poorly aimed and short. My fourth shot however met the left side of the 3-F with deadly accuracy causing the Panzer to explode.

After waiting for for more targets it seemed that we had repelled the attack and we shortly RTB'd thereafter. In total I had 4 confirmed kills.

Defending Orval

Sgt Tharival reported: " I sat lazily in the CP and leaned back against the stairs behind me. Gunfire and explosions lit the sky through the windows but I didn't blink nor take cover. I was tired. Tired of this fighting. My hands shook, but that was the only thing revealing my fear and nervousness. I shrugged and hefted my LMG to my knees. Weapon maintainence was important in the field. A little bit of dirt could foul up the mechanisms and leave you with a 10-15 pound paperweight. It had been quiet in my section of the city so far, only the static cries on the radio kept me updated with what was happening. I blew some dirt from the chamber of the LMG and slid the bolt home, chambering a round. "Ready for action."
I leaned back onto the floor and closed my eyes. Sleep was there to claim me if only I let it.
Footsteps alerted me and I quickly shouldered my LMG. The footsteps stopped and I realized I was holding my breath... A German stepped into view downstairs and I let loose several rounds. I heard the man curse and he threw a grenade up at me.
I grabbed the potato masher in mid-air and tossed it back downstairs in a horrible "BOOM!"
Several more Potato Mashers flew up at me from the soldier's concealed position but I frantically tossed them behind me and down the stairs when possible. "BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!"
I was deaf, I couldn't feel anything as I stumbled down the stairs...all of it slow motion.
The German was in front of me. We could have shook hands, we could have joked around with each other. We were so close...
I hip fired my LMG and the rounds scattered around the German. He was hit! The man stumbled, went to his knees and fell over. His rifle still slung, stuck on some of his gear. He died because he couldn't get his rifle free, he died because of a stupid mistake. I swallowed hard and took off my helmet in thought. Many troopers didn't have the chance to learn from their mistakes which would make them better soldiers. A mistake out here was fatal. I retreated back upstairs and began cleaning my LMG again.

Ninth death to enemy air

Lt. Colonel Oyaji, RAF: " Campaign 52 - 9th death to EA: Tinky123. This was really dumb - being "god's own drunk and a fearless man" - led to some real problems:

1) believed Porknbeans when he said he and Mac39 were around 1km at Montfaucon with no EA higher (Mac said I have "selective hearing"!),

2) refused to give up my H81 on my own mission instead of taking a Dewo on Porkandbeans' mission,

3) listened to Fabao on forums when he said we should have a beer and bury the hatchet... except I had 3 instead (the guys on Teamspeak have [rightly] called me a lightweight - what can I say, I gave up heavy drinking about 15 years ago, they're right and that's a good thing).

OK - time to have another brew and go fly another mission... would be better if I went to bed instead... Enjoy it Tinky - you don't want to meet me sober if I see you coming, you owe me one. *burp*"

Reb400 memorial

Last week, the 101st lost a member of our squad. Reb400 passed away. He was a great squad mate, always fun to talk to, always willing to help out. He had a deep southern twang to his voice, unmistakable when he logged into teamspeak. He had been in a lot of pain the last year and he wasn't able to play as much. Reb loved the game, loved to fly, loved to tank, and loved to play aside his squad mates. The 101st has lost a great squad mate and the game has lost a great player.

We'll miss you Reb,

Turning the tide

Captain Fuzzball reported from the battlefield: " As we all Know Hals is a nasty airfield, and very hard to capture or defend...many open areas to traverse. The enemy organized 3 Brigades, a tripple threat 2-inf 1-arm invasion from mons fb. As Axis HC organized a massive assault on town, tons opels and massive amounts of heavy armor moved into place before allies could properly defend.Axis hammered down on the ab and attrited the armor allies had there in a matter of 15 minutes.I Managed to sneak a laffy out of the ab during the encroachment of Hals AF. I will not disclose how or where i put the laffy, but that isnt as important. I setup the mission with a fellow 4-wing squadie Vstrider an XO in 4-wing, and we had another squad duo, join us. We simul-sapped the fb and took it down in one fell sweep or satchels. Axis lost all thier UMS units. And the allies moved to the new ZOC, Hals FB for a most excellent defense there with only one or two pannies patrolling for opels. The Axis immediate response was to send 3 or 4 opels and 4 or 5 heavy pz to hals fb...to no avail, allies were already in position to defend it. Hals Battle was turned for an Allied battle victory!"
